This original painting was created to help bring awareness to the mural tribute project, “Great America I – Our Fallen Heroes” in Virginia Beach and masterminded by muralist, Sam Welty.  The mural was completed the summer of 2017. The original painting of Jimi Hendrix is being auctioned off by Virginia Beach Fallen Heroes at their Freedomfest fundraiser event September 9th.

From Hampton, VA and currently living in Virginia Beach, I mainly apply portraiture, abstract expressionism and surrealism. I became serious about art at Hampton High School in Hampton, VA in 1995 and continued my artistic interest at Mount Saint Mary's University in Emmitsburg, MD in 1997. My most recent achievement is the Edward G. Carson Memorial Award at the renowned Stockley Gardens Spring Arts Festival in Norfolk, VA. My art is currently displayed in several local galleries and other venues with the primary media being pencil, charcoal, and acrylic painting. With a wide range of tastes and interests in various types of art, my work can represent the current state of the outside world, how I see it, and how it could possibly be. My portrait work represents my perspective of people I respect and admire, whether it's a famous musician, celebrity, or a commissioned subject. I like to take someone and give them an extra aura or aspect using shading technique, choice of expression, and overall composition. I seem to more deeply learn about the person I am rendering, and a little more about myself in the process. My influences include M.C. Escher, Chuck Close, Jackson Pollock, Salvador Dali, and Franz Kline.
